Fantasy: Because it's magic, dammit!
Sci-fi: Because it's the future, dammit!

This is hilarious! I remember having a lengthy debate about the distinctions of the two genres when I took a J.R.R. Tolkien class at uni. I don't think we came up with any clear answers. Thanks for sharing!
